High-speed growth in the market for degradable disposable straws

The U.S. compostable single-use straws market is expected to grow at a rate of 6.1% annually to reach $1.3 billion by 2024, according to a new study, as industrial companies continue to demand sustainable packaging alternatives. The catering packaging market will see the largest growth.

According to the study, the environmental advantages of degradable disposable straws include recyclability, biodegradability, and the ability to be composted in industrial facilities.

Develop molded fiber products that are more competitive with plastic alternatives in terms of cost, performance and aesthetics;

Backlash against single-use plastic products made from expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam, and a growing number of cities banning certain EPS foodservice products.

Over the long term, the foodservice market is expected to experience the fastest annual sales growth as restaurants and other dining establishments increasingly invest in environmentally friendly molded pulp shells, plates and bowls, as well as for delivery, takeout, and serving food lunch tray.
